EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team promotes Italian Davide Piganzoli to the professional ranks for the 2023 season

The Italian rider Davide Piganzoli will be the fourth rider of the U23 structure that promotes with a view to the next season to the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team, the fifth rider who will join the professional ranks in 2023 if one takes into account the signing of Marcel Camprubí for the Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team. Piganzoli joins Andrea Pietrobon, Javi Serrano and Fernando Tercero in a squad that already has confirmed also the signing of the Italian Simone Racani and the renewals of the Spanish Diego Pablo Sevilla and the Italians Alessandro Fancellu, Francesco Gavazzi and Giovanni Lonardi.

Piga has had an outstanding season, with victories in the overall of the Bidasoa Itzulia and in the time trial of the Italian Time Trial Championship in his category. In the Giro U23, the rider from Valtellina finished tenth for the second consecutive year and also had a great performance with the Italian national team in the Tour de l’Avenir, where he finished fifth. Piganzoli also came close to victory in two of the most prestigious races on the Spanish calendar that form part of the Spanish Cup, the Memorial Valenciaga and the Santikutz Klasika, finishing second in both. He also finished second in the extremely demanding French Tour Savoie Mont Blanc – Maurienne Classic.

“I am delighted as only someone who has dreamed of this moment since he was a child can be. For me, cycling has always been a beautiful game, which I got to know by chance: I was 10 years old, and in my village square there was an event where children could try out some sport. There were small bicycles, and a circuit to ride: I got on the bike and didn’t want to get off. I remember immediately telling my mother that I wanted to do that, that I wanted to do it seriously. She got in touch with a team close to home, but by then it was summer and we had to postpone it to September: we went to the sea, and that was the longest holiday of my life, because I couldn’t wait to get back and start cycling,” he says.
