The U23 structure of the Contador Foundation receives an invitation to the Giro d’Italia U23
Possibly the great stage race of the U23 panorama. The Giro d’Italia Giovanni U23 will celebrate its 45th edition between the next 11 and 18 June and among its participating teams will be the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team U23 of the Contador Foundation.
The formation directed by Rafa Díaz Justo and Dario Andriotto is among the seventeen foreign formations that, together with the 18 Italian ones, form the 35 teams in competition for this year, with five riders per squad.
For the U23 EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team it will be the third participation after the experiences of 2021 and 2019. On other occasions the Contador Foundation has been present in the race through the then continental structure and currently ProTeam. In the last continental season, 2020, the team achieved a great victory through Alejandro Ropero, several days wearing the maglia rosa, and finished first in the always prestigious team general classification.
In 2021, Italian David Piganzoli, a debutant in both the category and the race, finished a remarkable tenth overall, with a great performance in the last mountainous days of the race. The Spanish rider Juan Ayuso won the classification.
There is still no concrete information about the race itself, although there are strong rumours of important mountain stages in the Valtellina. The race, in whose direction Fabio Vegni will make his debut, is working on a varied and demanding route suitable only for very tough cyclists.
