A versatile team to tackle the varied route, with a time trial, proposed by the Vuelta a Valencia
X Vuelta a la Provincia de Valencia
From 10 to 13 September
If there is one balanced stage tour in the Spanish elite and under23 calendar, it is undoubtedly the Tour of the Province of Valencia. A race certainly young, born this century and facing its tenth edition; a race that in this extremely atypical season, marked by the pandemic of the coronavirus, is a blessing for multiple profiles of rider, with the specialists against the time trial in front.
The Levantine round, an increasingly atypical case in today’s competitive world, continues to include a time trial on its menu. And of more than twenty kilometres, something even more unusual. The time trial, the hard finish the next day at the hermitage of El Remedio de Chelva and two stages with terrain for adventurers who want to break a sprint or reduce the number of contenders undoubtedly support the assertion: a race with options for everyone.
This Vuelta a Valencia starts with a complex stage in which the riders should manage five laps of a circuit that includes a third category climb, Río Juanes, in the final part. Then, on Thursday, the aforementioned time trial. A day for specialists. The toughest part will come on Saturday, with the arrival at the Remedio Chapel. A hard and scenic climb (given its nine horseshoe curves) of 5.5 kilometres in which the riders will have to manage three thousand metres above 8.5% and a whole kilometre above 10%. Finally, on Sunday in the mountains, a classic circuit in the event, not at all flat, where you will have to face nine turns.
For a versatile event, a versatile team. The Kometa-Xstra Cycling Team travels to the Levant with Alessio Acco, Joan Martí Bennassar, Vicente Hernaiz, Álex Martín, Fernando Tercero, Yago Segovia and Mario Vilches. “After studying the route I hope that I won’t lose too much time in the time trial against those who defend well in the time trial so that I can get enough time in the mountain stage the next day”, says Vilches. The Spaniard, in the inaugural time trial in Zamora, over 3.4 kilometres, surprised with a fifteenth place finish. But neither the route nor the distance were obviously the same.
The stages.
