Albanese goes into the sprint in Zadar and gets a top-10 finish
CRO Race (2.1)
Stage 2: Otocac – Zadar (163km)
EOLO Kometa riders enjoyed today in the main peloton a much easier stage where all the action was concentrated in the final part. Maestri’s brave attitude to score again and ninth place for Vincenzo Albanese in the sprint finish. On the negative side, Maestri’s crash pushed him out of his place in the general classification.
The team rode in a group, defending Maestri’s position in the general classification after his great performance yesterday, but also hoping to shine again on a different terrain and in different weather conditions. On the final circuit, Mirco Maestri wanted to test his chances and scored in the last bonus sprint. Active as always, Albanese saved his energy and looked for the wheel of the fastest riders at the finish to get into the top-10 and also close to that position in the general classification. Maestri crashed on the last lap and although he will be able to continue racing, he loses his fourth place in the classification.
Vincenzo Albanese: “These first two stages were not hard enough for me, but from tomorrow the opportunities really start and I’m sure we can achieve a good result on a profile that suits me very well”.
