David Martin, in the breakway of Vuelta a Burgos
Vuelta a Burgos (2.PRO)
Stage 4: Torresandino – Clunia (169km)
Another very hot day in the Vuelta a Burgos and a very active EOLO Kometa, giving pace to the race from the early stages, looking for the breakaway and their chances to shine.
David Martín was part of a group of 14 riders that step by step opened gap despite the attitude in the peloton of the teams that had not managed to filter into that group. However, the fight ended up falling on the side of the breakaway.
The leading breakaway was selected in the final part of the race and David Martín was unable to stay with the leaders. A learning experience for him, who despite being a fast cyclist has also been able to experience the resolution of a breakaway being 10th at the finish line.
David Martín: “At the start I felt very good, being at the front to help my team-mates who were aiming to be in the breakaway. In one of the counter-attacks, several WorldTour riders jumped and I was able to break away with them to form the breakaway of the day. I knew that we could make it, because of the level of the riders in the group, and that they would control what was necessary to make sure that the gap wasn’t too big. I would have liked to be in the select group that played for the victory but I’m still happy with the sensations”.
