The only dry thing about today’s day is this chronicle, because the race really does tell its story in a moment. Usually the Bernocchi is a terrain for the sprinters, but the cloudburst that fell on the route from the first to the last meter messed up everything and prepared the ground for a breakaway that took shape at the first passage on the Piccolo Stelvio: Battistella, Masnada, Evenepoel, Puppio, Pinot, Covi immediately made a void with the group that let it go. At 30 km from the end, Evenepoel decided to say goodbye to the company and leave to cross the finish line alone.
