For some it is the last chance to prepare for the Vuelta. For others, the hunting ground to find victory after the World Championships. For others, simply a beautiful and tough race in a fascinating territory in love with cycling. For us at EOLO KOMETA, another race on our growth path that brings with it all the opportunities to show off and try to score a success. The ingredients are all there: five stages that offer possibilities for every type of rider (sprinters, climbers, breakaway hunters), a team made up of strong and ambitious riders. Here they are, the men in blue who will be at the start in Villalba de Duero: Alessandro Fancellu, captain Francesco Gavazzi, Andrea Garosio, Mattia Bais, Spaniards Javier Serrano, Àlex Martin, and Diego Sevilla.
There will be hard work for the riders, there will be spectacle for the fans: the likes of Roglic, Mas, Adam Yates, Caruso will be at the start of the Spanish stage race… And the route, as mentioned, reserves possibilities for all tastes.
It starts with the 161 kilometers from Villalba de Duero to Burgos, terrain for sprinters. Fascinating, the next day, the team time trial with 13.1 kilometers with a flat first part and the last 2 kilometers uphill to the finish in Poza de la Sal. Lots of climbing in the third stage, the 183-kilometer Sargentes de La Lora – Villarcayo with six KOMs, the most challenging being the Picon Blanco (7.8 km at 9%). Less challenging is the fourth stage from Santa Gadea del Cid to Pradoluengo (157 kilometers). It will be the fifth stage that will decide the general classification, the Golmayo – Lagunas de Neila of 160 kilometers with three KOMs in the second part with the final climb of Lagunas de Neila, 7000 meters with an average gradient of 8.7%.
Jesus Hernandez: “We bring a team that without Fortunato and Albanese maybe won’t fight for the final classification, but has every chance to hit some good results especially in the first stage in the sprint with Serrano and also in the fourth stage. On the fifth day with the uphill finish Alex Martìn can make a good finish but we will try to enter the breakaway maybe with Mattia trying to get to the end.”
Diego Sevilla: “Last year I did well, entered many breakaways and wore the mountain leader’s jersey. At the beginning of the summer I didn’t go very strong but now I’m feeling better and better, I’ve recovered and I’m ready to face this race with a lot of desire to show off.”
