Vincenzo Albanese signs a brilliant Circuito de Getxo fighting in the breakaway and persevering in Pike Bidea

Very tough. The Circuito de Getxo was a vibrant race, without respite, full of alternatives and markings, and with great prominence for a large collaboration of twelve riders who led the race until the vicinity of the ascent to Pike Bidea. A breakaway in which Vincenzo Albanese rode sensationally in Bizkaia, keeping an eye on the cuts in the breakaway until it came to an end. Giacomo Nizzolo won and Alba finished 13th.

The first kilometres followed the trend of recent years with a carousel of attempts, more or less numerous and of fleeting existence. Arturo Grávalos, Márton Dina and Alejandro Ropero, in a group that at times seemed to have a chance, were responsible for riding at the front.

After the second pass through the finish line a group of nine riders was formed, without representation of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team, which later grew to twelve riders with the arrival, among others, of Vincenzo Albanese. The group consolidated a gap of between a minute and a minute and a half.

A great breakaway, with Mohoric and Trentin among others, came to an end before Pike Bidea. On the very hard climb, the race was selected and on the descent, seven riders came together. Nizzolo would win with a lot of solvency over Aleotti and Buitrago on the final climb.

Vincenzo Albanese: “I knew that the last climb would be the decisive point of the race, but I was hoping that the group behind would give us a bit more space. The breakaway of the day was very good, there were some very important riders in it. However, the peloton pushed hard and they caught us with 15 kilometres to go. I’m happy, however, it was a good day”.
