Two newly created ‘classics’ for the under-23 team
After a week of rest after the accumulation of several competitions during a short period of time, the u23 team returns to competition. If during the month of July they competed in Castilla y León, now it will be Castilla La Mancha who will host two newly created races this weekend. Toledo and Ciudad Real will witness two exciting races.
The team will compete with eight riders in both races. The routes of both days will offer different alternatives so the squad will be composed by riders of different profile. The fast Bessega brothers, Tommaso and Gabriele, together with two strong riders like Manuel Sanroma and Daniel Tenorio will bring speed to the team. The climbing skills will be covered by Gerard Cano, Pablo García and Martín Barrero. These seven will be joined by Eleazar Jiménez from the junior team, who will have first-hand knowledge of the category.
The first day will be marked by two mountain passes during the first part of the race. The Risco de las Paradas (3rd) and the ascent to Baños del Robledillo (2nd) will select the group before facing the special sectors marked by the organization. The finish will also be very demanding in the middle of the city of Toledo to complete 168 kilometers of competition. The second day will be much more favorable and despite presenting several climbs during its 167 kilometers of route; Navalrromo (3rd), Mestanza (3rd) and El Minero (3rd), the day seems to be destined to a sprint resolution in Ciudad Real.
“The weather is going to mark a lot the two races both physically and psychologically because it’s going to be very hot. They are two different races. The first one has a more challenging course and some demanding climbs on narrow roads. The team knows the route and the bunch will be selected a lot towards the finish. The next day, it will be a sprint, but that’s the theory. We will work with the eight riders for the collective benefit. Just as Raccagni and Luca will test with the PRO team, in our case we will test Eleazar Jimenez and Miguel Moreira. This weekend Eleazar will make his debut and he will have to adapt and get to know the higher category and compete for 60 minutes more”, explained Miguel Gómez, the team’s director, looking forward to the weekend.
“I’m coming into these first two races with the u23 team in very good shape. I’m going to take advantage of this opportunity that the team gives me to race in a higher category than the one I’m in. I’m looking forward to these first two races, with the intention of helping the team as much as possible, take advantage of the opportunity and above all, give everything on the bike. I’m looking forward to the races, which will also be close to home”, says an excited Eleazar Jiménez before the opportunity to compete with the u23 team.
