Top-10 for Lonardi to close the Tour du Limousin
Fast final day, in which Team Polti Kometa was able to endure the different race situations and get into the sprint to take the 6th position with Giovanni Lonardi.
The last stage of the Tour du Limousin never disappoints. And in this case, Polti Kometa’s protagonism came in the final part. On the last lap of the circuit of Limoges, the movements looking to break the sprint finish followed one after the other. And finally Bergaudeau (Total Energies) managed to get ahead of the bunch, to take the victory, but behind Lonardi kept the position to finish sixth. Another top-10 for the Italian in this great season for him. The final overall went to Baudin (Decathlon).
The negative note was signed by Mirco Maestri, who despite fighting to defend his best climber’s jersey and score points in the classification, could not keep the lead in this final stage. But his work in support of Lonardi in the final part was again decisive for the placement of the sprinter.
Giovanni Lonardi: ‘It was a tough final day, with Mirco trying to hold on to the KOM jersey. I wait until the final part, trying to confirm my good feeling. The finish was demanding, but I was able to be fifth in the group (although sixth at the end because there was a rider ahead of the bunch). I’m happy with the result and I hope to keep on getting even better results in the next race’.
Giovanni Ellena, sport director: ‘We missed the mountains jersey by just one point. It’s a pity because we fought hard to defend it, but it wasn’t possible. I will highlight the good final work, in which Maestri has been outstanding and Lonardi has managed to get into the top-10 to close the race’.
Team Polti Kometa will face next week the Tour de Poitou Charentes, the final competition of this French tour that will close the month of August.
