Three very different stages in Volta a Valencia
After two weeks without competition the under-23 team returns to put on a bib in Valencia. The Volta a Valencia together with the Vuelta a Salamanca between Sunday and Monday and the Volta a Galicia next week, will close the 2024 season for the team. Six riders will participate in this race composed of an individual time trial, a mid-mountain stage and a day for sprinters.
The team will travel to Valencia with a very competitive and varied ‘six’. Brothers Gabriele and Tommaso Bessega will bring their characteristic speed and power to the team. Dario Giuliano and Samuel Novak will provide the climbing ability for the most demanding day and the time trial and both Eleazar Jimenez and Bálint Fedlhoffer will support their teammates in everything necessary and on all terrains.
The first day of the race will be an individual time trial in Chiva. Despite being on a short parkour, only five kilometers long, the vast majority of it will be uphill, where the riders with more power will prevail when the road is inclined. The second stage, the longest of the edition, will have three climbs that will count on the overall king of the mountain classification, in addition to a constant up and down terrain that will take its toll on the cyclists. The Alto de Zarra (3rd) will be crowned just four kilometers from the finish. The last stage will take place entirely on a circuit in Moncada where the resolution will probably come from a mass sprint.
Miguel Gómez, sport director: “We will race with 6 riders because we have schedule another race at the same time, several injuries and some riders testing with the pro team. Eleazar Jiménez is also coming back from the junior team to race with us. There will be three stages with a time trial that will make a difference, which will mark who will not be for the general classification. The second one will be very selective and will take time as it has a mountain pass at the end and ends in the Ayora climb. The third, on the other hand, a priori will be a sprint. Our 6 is very complete, we have options in any of the three stages, with several alternatives and this will put us in a good position for the final overall”.
Stage 1: Chiva – Castillo de Chiva (5km) C.R.I
Stage 2: Cheste – Ayora (138km)
