Third place for David Martín in the sprint in Benavente in the second stage in Zamora.

38º Vuelta a Zamora
Stage 2: Valcabado – Benavente (149,4 km)

David Martín, from Seville, came close to victory on Wednesday in the second stage of the Vuelta Ciclista a Zamora, which finished in Benavente. Martín finished third in a sprint where the Cantabrian Miguel Ángel Fernández (Rias Baixas) won with ease, after coming out first from the last corner and managing the last climb to perfection. Vicente Hernaiz finished eighth and cemented the first position of the U23 team of the Contador Foundation on the day. Francisco García Rus remains at the head of a provisional general classification without major changes.

A first stage in line in which two breakaways, first one with five riders, another with six, in both of which Borja Teruel was present, led the race for many kilometres, moments of the race in which the U23 structure of the Foundation was one of the squads that was in charge of setting the pace. The second, despite its advantage of more than two minutes, ended up being neutralised with the race facing the last ten kilometres. The sprint emerged as the only possible possibility.

This Thursday, the third stage. A route through the region of Aliste punctuated by up to five high points, the first one in the vicinity of the start, and numerous steep slopes. Between Fonfría and Riofrío de Aliste, the Alto de Vide, the Alto de la Sierra, the Alto de Ferreras, the Alto de Vega and the Alto del Crucero de Viñas. And the option that the wind may appear.
