The winding Galician routes are back in competition after a week of stoppage
16 May: Vigo Copa de España 2021 (Vigo – Vigo, 176,8 km).
17 May: Campeonato Gallego de Estrada (Vigo – Vigo: 176,8 km).
Again Galicia hosts the next competitions of the U23 structure of the Contador Foundation. A week after the last-minute postponement of the Clásica de Pascua de Padrón due to the health situation, the Spanish Cup resumes its journey with the new Vigo Copa de España. The following day, to complete this small Galician tour, Rafa Díaz’s team will compete in the Galician Championship, a race that will be held on the same course as the previous day.
And the route is not an easy one. A test of interesting mileage, more than 175 kilometres, in the middle of the always complex Galician orography. Mos, Chenlo and Monte Alba, on two occasions, will be the main orographic difficulties. From the last pass through Monte Alba to the finish line next to the Mar de Vigo Auditorium in the city of Vigo, 35 kilometres remain. In addition to the complexity of the altimetry, there is also the factor of duplication. “We can practically talk about two cups”, says Rafa Díaz Justo.
Joan Martí Bennassar from the Balearic Islands, Vicente Hernaiz from Castilla-León, Álex Martín from Catalonia, David Martín from Andalusia, Yago Segovia from Asturias, Fernando Tercero from Castilla-La Mancha and Davide Piganzoli from Italy will compete in the Spanish Cup on Sunday. On Monday, Edu Pérez-Landaluce from Asturias, Alejandro Luna from Madrid and José Luis Medina from Andalusia will join the team in place of Hernaiz, Álex and Tercero.
