The U23 team of the Contador Foundation is concentrating in Segovia to generate its bubble with a view to the Giro U23
The meeting will be held at the Hotel La Chata in La Granja de San Ildefonso (Segovia) and will last from Thursday 20 May to Wednesday 26 May. A part of the U23 team of the Foundation is concentrating in the Central System with a view to finalise the preparation for the imminent Giro d’Italia U23 and to generate the necessary security bubble to face the race with the maximum guarantees.
Joan Martí Bennasar from the Balearic Islands, Álvaro García from Cantabria, Vicente Hernaiz from Castilla-León, Álex Martín from Catalonia, David Martín from Andalusia and Fernando Tercero from Castilla-La Mancha are the six riders who will take part in this meeting. From here, four names will come out for the Corsa Rosa, to which Italian Davide Piganzoli will be added. The rider from Lombardy, for academic reasons, will not be able to travel to Segovia and will join the team at the start of the race.
“The Giro U23 is one of the main objectives of the season for us, it is a race in which we want to do well and face it with the level it deserves. That’s why it’s important to be able to get together beforehand,” says Toledo-based director Rafa Díaz Justo.
“The most important motivation is to be able to create the capsule of the group that will go to Italy and to do it a couple of weeks in advance. In the end these six riders will participate or will be the two reserve riders. In addition to the importance of the bubble, it’s a great opportunity to get together and take advantage of the climbs in the area so that the riders feel the contrast with some of the climbs in the Giro”, he concludes.
