The Spanish Cup returns to a venue in a Pucelan land with unbeatable memories for the Foundation
Memorial Ángel Lozano / Copa de España
Valladolid – Valladolid (160,1 km)
The Spanish Cup returns to the front line with the seventh of the eleven scheduled races (the Momparler Memorial was postponed sine die due to the denial of a permit by the competent authority in Traffic and still has no new date assigned) and a great memory for the team led by Rafa Díaz Justo. In the Castilian appointment of the competition, the U23 structure of the Contador Foundation has won on the last two occasions (2020, 2021) by the hand of the now professional David Martín.
This double win shows the nature of this Memorial Ángel Lozano de Valladolid: a race for fast men or with a good top speed in which the wind factor can have its influence if the day of the race blows with some intensity. It is not a completely flat race either, as up to eight gradients punctuate the route. The Alto de Portillo, a wall of just over one kilometre at an average of over 10% (and 20% gradients) which is crowned after passing through the so-called Arco Grande, of medieval origin, is faced on two occasions.
The EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team U23 goes with a seven composed by David Domínguez, Ramón Fernández, Arnau Gilabert, Antonio González, Fran Muñoz, Andrea Pietrobon and Javi Serrano. Pietrobon is in fourth place in the overall standings, with 263 points compared to 309 for Andoni López de Abetxuko. Fran Muñoz, with 247, is sixth in the standings. “I feel recovered after the fever, I have been training well all this week and I hope to be able to transfer this good feeling also to the race this Sunday”, said Andrea Pietrobon.
