The Kometa Cycling Team concentrates for a week in Valtellina
The Kometa Cycling Team returns to Bormio. The continental formation of the Alberto Contador Foundation will face a week of meeting in Valtellina that will take place between 8 and 15 July. During this stage, in which the team finishes the preparation for participation a few days later in the demanding Giro Ciclístico della Valle d´Aosta, which will be held between 16 and 21 July, the riders and staff will also star in several promotional actions with some of their main sponsors.
In addition to the climbing of some of their famous mountains during the development of their training, among the various collateral actions that will take place during this concentration, weather permitting, is a visit to the Malga Pedranzini in Forni, and its monumental landscape environment, an enclave of great beauty at the foot of iconic alpine mountains of more than 3000 m like Monte Vioz, Monte Cevedale or Punta San Matteo. It is not far from a cycling icon such as Passo di Gavia, whose road is still closed to traffic.
Malga, a word that can be literally translated as ‘cabin’, alludes to a mountain farm: Malga Pedranzini is located at about 2,500 metres above sea level and the quality of the pastures of its nearby meadows underpins both the very high quality of Pedranzini cheeses and the firm’s passion for the highest quality of its products. A few sleepless nights, a dedication to maximum quality and meticulous ways of working that have been exported to Kometa.
The different events planned also include a short visit to a winery in Tirano, the Azienda Pedranzini in Bormio and a visit to the Trenino Rosso del Bernina, a World Heritage Site, which connects Tirano with the Swiss town of Saint Moritz. From this Swiss town, a bicycle training session will begin to return to Bormio via Passo del Bernina, Passo di Forcola, Passo Eira and Passo del Foscagno.
One of the most vibrant moments of this week in Italian lands will come on Sunday, the 14th, when the team will support Mapei Day, a sports festival in which the main protagonist will be Passo dello Stelvio and its 2758 meters of altitude. The 21-kilometre route that climbs from Bormio, 1533 metres uphill, will remain closed to traffic to host both male and female races and, at the same time, a foot race over the half marathon distance.
An intense week of actions and pedaladas with the Valley d´Aosta in the nearest horizon.
