The junior team lays the foundations for its 2021 season with a meet in Pinto
The facilities of the Sercotel Princesa de Éboli in Pinto have hosted for two days a first concentration of the junior cycling structure of the Contador Foundation. The main objective of this first contact was to carry out physical and medical tests by the Premiummadrid Global Health team.
The meeting, in which eleven of the twelve riders of the team took part, was also used for various technical talks, testing of materials and the protocolary photographs with the new EOLO-KOMETA colours made by the Murcian firm Gobik, which they will wear during the season.
The meet started with the creation of the safety bubble. As happened two days before with the U23 structure, all the riders and staff members were tested in order to be able to enter with the maximum health guarantees. All the activities were carried out with a rigorous social distancing, with the obligatory wearing of masks at all times and the frequent use of hydroalcoholic gel.
The only casualty was Gergo Magyar. The Hungarian cyclist, one of the five new faces of the project, selected in the last Selection Campus, could not travel to Spain due to the restrictions that currently affect mobility at continental level. “Very happy and looking forward to it”, says Lucas Guillermo, from La Rioja, summarising his feelings about his presence in this first training camp. “These recent times have not been easy anywhere, we have to hope that little by little the situation will improve”, adds Pablo García from Valencia.
Following in the footsteps of the U23 squad, the eleven riders underwent a health check-up, physical and medical tests at Premiummadrid Global Health’s facilities in Pozuelo de Alarcón. In the talks, sports manager Félix García Casas and director Guillermo Gutiérrez emphasised the importance of their studies for their life trajectories and relevant aspects such as taking care of their equipment and respecting the squad.
Fran Contador, general manager of the teams, concluded: “You have before you a great opportunity to learn and to grow in your dream of becoming professional cyclists. In the future you will certainly have more opportunities, no doubt, but this year, this season, is unique. Every year is unique. Enjoy it. Make the most of it”.
