The Garbí and the orography of the Alto Turia decide a Volta a la Provincia de Valencia that reaches its twelfth edition once again without a time trial
XII Volta a la Provincia de Valencia
From 8 to 11 september
Amadeo Olmos’ passion for the sport of cycling is undeniable, a field in which he has done everything over the last few decades and in which he has presided over the Valencian Community Cycling Federation since 2005. Olmos will not stand for re-election to the post, as he himself has announced on his social networks, but he does want to continue organising and organising cycling events in different categories and modalities. New events will never be a bad thing for the sport. The Volta a la Provincia de Valencia, another of the upcoming challenges of the U23 team of the Contador Foundation, is a good example of this desire.
The race, not in vain, has been one of the federation’s main bets. A stage race for elite and U23 riders that was launched in 2011, the day before yesterday in historical terms, and which in barely a decade has become a fundamental event in the calendar at the end of the summer. Always over four stages, the Valencian round has been one of the few on the entire European scene to programme a generous distance individual time trial in several of its editions. And such is the support of the institutions that it was even able to go ahead in a season as complicated and difficult as the 2020 season.
The Alto Turia will once again be fundamental in the resolution of the 2022 edition and the Serra Grossa will take on special relevance due to the scheduled passage through the very hard Garbí for the second of the four stages. Given its proximity to the finish line, it will be important. Possibly not decisive, however, given the orography of the following day: tough terrain and high plateaus where the wind may appear on a route that will climb the Serranos region. For the Valencian race Rafa Díaz Justo has called up a very strong seven riders made up of Marcel Camprubí, David Domínguez, Ramón Fernández, Arnau Gilabert, Sebastiano Minoia, Andrea Montoli and Andrea Pietrobon.
The stages.
Stage 1 (8 September): Valencia – Vilamarxant (135 km).
Stage 2 (9 September): Estivella – Estivella (133 km).
Stage 3 (10th September): Benageber – Aras de los Olmos (142 km).
