The day’s breakaway makes its presence felt in Salamanca, with Oioli signing a fifth position from the group of illustrious riders
50 Vuelta Ciclista a Salamanca
Stage 1: Sardón de los Frailes – Aldeadávila (122,1 km)
Just barely, but just enough. The Vuelta Ciclista a Salamanca of its Golden Jubilee started this Friday with a stage with a complex finish in which the breakaway of the day triumphed. Or, more precisely, one of the riders who formed part of it, able to impose its strength after a regrouping in the last four kilometres. Pol Hervás won at the finish, while Manuel Oioli finished in an outstanding fifth position.
Hervás (Brocar-Ale), Sergio Ginés (Drone Hopper), Igor Molina (Previley), Fernando Rodríguez (Team Extremadura) and Martín Fajardo (Tenerife Bike Point) formed a very well-matched quintet that achieved a lead of almost four minutes over a peloton in which Froiz, Caja Rural and EOLO-KOMETA collaborated to keep it under control.
On the climb to Saucelle, the same one in which the peloton was initially reduced to fifteen riders with a quadruple representation of the Contador Foundation (Oioli, Serrano, Tercero and Muñoz), both Hervás and Ginés managed to stay at the front, with a minimum income that they managed to maintain during a dizzying final twenty kilometres. The neutralisation did not materialise and from behind came Edgar Cadena and Alex Hoehn. Oioli fought to reach the leading positions. From the chasing pack, Serrano and Tercero finished in the top 15.
For this Saturday, the queen stage in the Sierra de Francia with the ascent to the aesthetic Portillo de Las Batuecas in the vicinity of the finish in the tourist town of La Alberca. A day for climbers.
