The Copa de España picks up speed in the Trofeo Guerrita of Alcantarilla
One of the characteristics that define and explain the Copa de España Elite and U23 is the fast-paced succession of races that bring a lot of height to the competition in a relatively short period of time. One week after the premiere of the 2023 edition, it is the turn of the Murcian stage of the tournament, the second race of the competition: the Trofeo Guerrita.
The iconic race promoted and promoted by the Peña Ciclista Guerrita will once again feature a long route with two distinct parts. The first is much more demanding, with a ride through the foothills of the Sierra de Espuña, including two passes through the Alto de la Perdiz, and the second around Alcantarilla where there is no shortage of steep slopes and terrain to break up the race. The weather, always a factor to take into account, will not be as extreme as last year’s edition according to the predictive models.
The U23 structure of the Contador Foundation will go with a seven formed by Haimar Etxeberria, Ramón Fernández, Antonio González, Raúl López, Sebastiano Minoia, Andrea Montoli and Fran Muñoz. In this race, the team has achieved beautiful victories such as those of Álvaro Cuadros (2016) and Juan Pedro López (2018).
Fran Muñoz: “The first race of the Spanish Cup in Don Benito has given us a perfect picture of who, teams and riders, are in the best shape at the moment; all of them, and surely some more, will also have to be taken into account in the Guerrita this Sunday. In the end, each race is different and has its own circumstances. The Guerrita Trophy, without going any further, was very tough last year because of the weather. Personally, I’m going to Murcia with a lot of desire to improve and keep growing, we are going to the Guerrita with the maximum motivation”.
