“The balance is good: the team fought every day, had a presence in the breakaways and Albanese came third in two stages”

Stage 4: Comunero de Revenga – Lagunas de Neila (146 km)

The demanding climb to the Lagunas de Neila hosted this Saturday the end of a Vuelta a Burgos in which there was a change of leader and the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team tried to have a presence in a breakaway that was planted in the final climb and was only neutralized by the determination and perseverance of the peloton. The stage went to British rider Hugh Carthy, the overall to Spaniard Mikel Landa and Italian Vincenzo Albanese was the best classified in the iconic summit of the Iberian System: in the last fraction, 46th, at 2’32”; in the overall, Mark Christian finished 32nd at 9’26”.

Alejandro Ropero and Sergio García were very active in the search for the breakaway during the first kilometres, but their attempts were unsuccessful. Finally a sextet was formed, without team representation, which had more than five minutes of advantage over a peloton that worked hard to bring it down. It was not until the final climb, with less than eight kilometres to go, when it came to an end.

Jesús Hernández, director of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team in Burgos: “The balance has to be good. Obviously with a victory it would have been a total success, but the team has been fighting every day, has had a lot of presence in the breakaways and Albanese has finished two stages in third position. For us, both as a team and for me as an individual, the Vuelta a Burgos is much more than a stage race. Except for Gavazzi’s withdrawal, which was the worst thing about this edition for us, the rest of the evaluations are good. The guys have worked very well, always together and without any complexes. We continue to grow and I’m sure that the next races will bring very, very nice results”.
