Team Polti Kometa prepares in Bormio and Valtellina for the final stretch of the season

During the first weeks of July, Team Polti Kometa will hold a high-altitude training camp in Bormio, Italian town in the Alps, specifically in the Lombard region called Valtellina. The recent great results with Paul Double in Slovenia, Erik Fetter narrowly securing the runner-up position in Hungary or Garosio and Double again shining in Slovaquie, team morale is rising ahead this altitude training week.

Bormio, a regular spot for Team Polti Kometa’s summer training camps, has been chosen again to prepare for the final part of the season, with major goals in sight. Additionally, this presents an opportunity to explore the wonders of a true cycling paradise.

From July 2 to 9 the entire team will take part in this training camp, which encompasses much more than just the sporting aspect. The stay in this privileged environment allows for the perfect combination of cycling, history and stunning landscapes, creating an unparalleled experience. This isn’t the first time the team has chosen Bormio and Valtellina, taking advantage of the excellent conditions this region offers, especially in the summer.

The training sessions will include iconic climbs such as the Stelvio, Gavia and Mortirolo, usual ascents of the Giro d’Italia. Additionally, Polti Kometa has planned various activities to boost the image of its sponsors. Kometa, with a strong presence in this part of Italy, will reinforce its image and bond with the region. Among the planned activities is a visit to the Malga Pedranzini. A location situated at around 2,500 meters above sea level, with vast pastures in its nearby meadows that form the basis for both the very high quality of Pedranzini cheeses and the passion of this brand for the utmost quality in Kometa products.

The trainers and sports directors have designed a series of training blocks for the 20 cyclists participating in the camp, including the local rider Davide Piganzoli, one of the sensations of the season, who has already won races wearing the Team Polti Kometa jersey. With a late July packed with competitions, August, and the Italian classics in September and October, it’s crucial to reach these events in the best possible shape.

This training camp also represents an excellent opportunity for local and national journalists to interview the riders and the technical staff. Several meetings with Kometa’s clients have also been organized, offering a unique experience to share time with the team and take excursions to explore Valtellina.

Team Polti Kometa will bring more than 35 people to Bormio, aiming to address both the sporting aspect and the image and sponsor-related goals. With Valtellina as the backdrop, these 8 days will be immensely beneficial for everyone in Italy.

Piganzoli: “For the team, it’s a great experience to visit this beautiful area and train on all types of terrain: plains, short mountains, long mountains, mythical mountains… Personally I’m very happy to spend quality time with my teammates in my Valtellina, and to do so by resuming training consistently after the minor knee injury I suffered in Slovenia.”

Ivan Basso, sport manager of Team Polti Kometa: “Bormio is our usual base for summer training camps, a place at the center of mythical climbs that takes me back to my origins. I am half Valtellinese, and here I have achieved some of my most important victories. This region is also the wonderful homeland of Kometa, so the bond with our team is total. What better place to build team spirit and cement the cohesion of our squad at the end of a tough but fruitful first half of the season? It will be the perfect time to get our thoughts in order and plan the second part of 2024.”
