Team Polti Kometa compact for Double, 10th in Settimana Coppi e Bartali 4th stage
No breakaway today for Team Polti Kometa, there was a Paul Double to escort until the last uphills to be faced together with the best riders of the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali. The Italian squad completed this task excellently, and on the cobbles of Brisighella (in the Ravenna province) the English climber finished 10th, thus earning the 15th overall position with only one stage left to race.
This fourth raceday saw a 10-men breakaway, which resisted the five climbs of the Monticino and was only caught on the last slope of the Valico Rio Chiè. There Ryan from EF found the right attack, while behind him the GC men group remained composed and fought for placements.
“Today I’m really satisfied!” – Double says on the spot – “I gained a couple of positions in the general classification in a demanding day. Yesterday’s cramps made themselves felt, but I held on thanks also to the work of the entire Polti Kometa and a super Sevilla.”
This is the comment from the sports director Giovanni Ellena: “Well done to all the guys for how they supported Paul, special praise goes to Alex Martín and Diego Sevilla. Tomorrow we’ll face the final act in Forlì focused on seeking a nice result, although we’ll miss Andrea Garosio who had to withdraw: after the Tour of Taiwan efforts, he has done a great job in these four days at the Coppi&Bartali.”
