Sevilla got a solo win in the tough race of Lazkao

Diego Pablo Sevilla culminated with a nice victory in Lazkao the last performances of the Polartec Under-23, that week after week showed the progression of its riders, more and more closer to the podium. Sevilla, who crossed the finish line alone after a great performance of all his teammates, was in charge of getting it, showing also that he is currently one of the riders most in form of the Spanish squad.

“This victory has been the result of a good collective work”, explained after the race Gorka Beloki, directing the Polartec team on this occasion. Ten riders took the start of the race, integrated in the Lehendakari Trophy of the Basque Country. With  Sevilla were Juan Camacho, Isaac Cantón, Iker Ezquibel, Jorge Pastor, Fran Pérez, Sergio Hernández, Tomeu Gelabert, Daniele Cantoni and Joan Bou. “They have run very well, always in the breaks, controlling the race and, in the end, with a great Camacho who has attacked alone and who have only chased near to crowning the last climb, moment that Sevilla used to counterattack and leave alone towards the goal”.

The joy of the podium had its counterpart with the crash Joan Bou, who suffered the fracture of a pair of ribs. He had to be transferred to the hospital, but fortunately he was able to return home with a good prognosis for his recovery.

The weekend was completed on Monday with the Legazpia Classic, scoring for the Spanish Cup. It was also a tough race with a last climb, Deskarga, very close to the finish, but this time was not as favorable to the Polartec riders as the day before. A little more than a kilometer from the summit, several men from the Foundation, Juanpe Lopez, Miguel Angel Ballesteros and Diego Sevilla, were in the lead group, at which time the first of them started a series of skirmishes that in the end ended with the victory of Sergio Samitier, while Miguel Angel Ballesteros, thirteenth, was the first classified of Polartec.

In Legazpia, in any case, the team was again in the lead, just like the previous day in Lazkao, which makes it hope that Polartec will improve for next appointments, starting with the Memorial Xavi Tondo, next race of the Cup of Spain.
