Rosa’s ride, and Albanese’s breakthrough
Many, many kilometers in the breakaway: when the applause is all for you, when loneliness is something beautiful, when there is so much visibility for the sponsors drawn on the jersey, when the cameras have no one else to frame but you.
Diego Rosa’s day was this, day’s attacker reeled in with 28 km to go in a stage that was then the sprinters’ affair (Demare, him again, by a whisker over Ewan). And, guess what? In this sprint there was still room for our EOLO-KOMETA with Albanese’s ninth place: first top ten, for us, in this Giro.
Diego Rosa: “I tried to go away before the GPM to take the points, but I certainly didn’t expect to stay alone: I thought some other team like ours, without sprinters, would try to keep me company to play us some more chances. In the end I stayed alone, and I gave myself a day to take the applause of the people. I’m also happy for our sponsors, who got some good visibility.”
