Robinson Rincón 8 seconds from victory in Valladolid, Loaisa leader with one stage to go

Stage 2: sector 1 and 2

The second day of the Vuelta a Valladolid was divided into two sectors with a flat stage in the morning and an individual time trial in the afternoon. The breakaway took the victory in the morning sector with Óscar Orts 8th and in the afternoon time trial, Robinson Rincón, Pan-American champion of the discipline, managed to be third.

The morning sector went to the six riders of a breakaway that was not dangerous for the team’s interests as far as the general classification is concerned. Oscar Orts was second in the bunch and finished the stage eighth as the best rider of the team. In addition, a little cut in the main group made the rider from Alicante climb to the fourth position in the general classification, as well as Eleazar Jiménez to be the new leader.

In the afternoon, the second sector was held, an individual time trial of almost 10 kilometres with an uphill finish. Robinson Rincón was third, 8″ behind the winner. Iván Loaisa was fifth, regaining the lead of the race and Óscar Orts, regular for another day, was sixth. The team managed to maintain the first four positions in the general classification with one day to go, as well as the best young rider jersey, the mountains prize and the regularity jersey.

‘The sensations of the day were very good, wearing the Pan American champion’s suit will always be an honor and tomorrow we will go out to defend the overall with our leader’, Robinson Rincón summed up at the end of the second sector of the second stage.
