Quality debut for Dario Giuliano in Aiztondo

The third round of the Copa de España came to Aiztondo with Gabriele Raccagni as the leader and a very demanding course. The day, marked by the climbs to Aduna, Alkiza and Mendigain ended with a 4th place for Dario Giuliano in his debut with the team.

The day began with the neutralisation of the race after a fall in the peloton and a consequent lack of ambulances. With the race back on track, Pablo Garcia and Dario Giuliano got themselfs into a group of 13 riders that managed to distance the bunch. The large group subsequently increased its pace on the climb to Alkiza, not allowing the breakaway riders to gain any further advantage, and a leading group of around 40 riders was formed.

The fight between the group and the bunch went in the direction of the leaders. Little by little, the riders fell out of this group until, on the last climb to Mendigain, a few kilometres from the finish, the group was finally selected.

Dario Giuliano was able to respond to the late attacks and finally finished 4th at the finish in Asteasu.

Dario Giuliano: “It’s my first race of the season and I’m very happy with the result. I thought I could have won, but I lacked speed in the sprint”.
