Presence in the big breakaways before the mountains, Fran Muñoz’s long shot and Serrano’s sixth place in the sprint in Xátiva
33º Trofeo Fira d´Agost
Xativa – Xátiva (139,3 km)
Javi Serrano finished sixth in an edition of the Trofeu Fira d’Agost de Xátiva that was resolved in the sprint of a small group, about twenty units, with victory for Benjamí Prades and prominence for an ambitious attempt to ride alone by Fran Muñoz midway through the race.
Several attempts of numerous breakaways in which the U23 team of the Contador Foundation sought to have a presence characterized the first third of the race, always with minimal differences and a very lively pace. Andrea Pietrobon rode in a septet and Pietrobon himself together with Javi Serrano formed part of a vanguard of ten riders that was born, existed and died out kilometres later.
For the kilometre 55 the race was grouped and it was then, with the arrival of the mountainous chained, when a group of fifteen cyclists was gestated in which the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team counted on the double representation of Fran Muñoz and Andrea Pietrobon.
Muñoz would end up standing out alone in the very hard ramps of El Campello, riding with more than a minute over twenty riders including Marcel Camprubí, Andrea Pietrobon and Javi Serrano. His ambitious attempt would come to an end on the Alto de Serragrossa, near the finish line, in the face of the momentum of a growing peloton that was regrouping after the descent and the subsequent terrain. With the neutralisation, a dynamic of attacks and counterattacks in which around twenty riders stood out at the front who would play for the victory.
