Podium for Albanese at the end of the CRO Race
CRO Race (2.1)
Stage 6: Sveta Nedelja – Zagreb (158km)
The effort in the complicated circuit and in the dizzying sprint allowed Albanese to be third at the finish line and to conclude a great CRO Race for him in fourth position.
After the initial madness in search of the bonus sprint, the race let a breakaway of 5 riders go, including Álex Martín. The young Spaniard collaborated with his fellow adventurers, trying to take this attempt as far as possible, before the final circuit in Zagreb. For more than 40 kilometres, the race remained at around one minute gap, leaving Martín to dream, but the final push led to a neutralisation with less than 12 kilometres to go.
Cobbles, steep descents and a lot of pace made for a heart-stopping finish, in which Vincenzo Albanese also had to save a crash in the last 2 kilometres. Progressing in the final part, he tried to follow the wheel of the winner Viviani (Ineos) to climb the podium of this final day. The dreamed end to the race, for an EOLO Kometa that shone from start to finish with a total of 4 places in the top-5 as well as fourth place overall.
Stefano Zanatta: “The CRO Race was a good opportunity to achieve great results. We went for the win, Vincenzo Albanese was very good and he found a team that supported him and helped him to achieve it. The team has shown once again its great work and the step by step growth in each race. It wasn’t possible to win but we were very good, with three top-4 finishes, which is a reward for everyone’s efforts”.
Vincenzo Albanese: “Today I finished very well with an excellent third place, which confirms my excellent season. Now I’m going to Lombardy, where I want to do well and I’m sure I’ll be there to fight, although after a year in which I’m always there at the front (34 places in the top-10 in 70 races) I admit I’m a bit tired. But Lombardy will be one of the last great efforts of this fantastic season and I’m looking forward to a good result”.
