Pedro Beneit finishes fifth in the general classification of the Vuelta Ciclista a Talavera
XXVII Vuelta a Talavera
Etapa 4: Talavera de la Reina – Talavera de la Reina (103 km)
The Alicante cyclist Pedro Beneit finished in fifth place in this special edition of the Vuelta a Talavera after a final day, the queen’s stage, in which the Alicante cyclist Juan Ayuso once again won the part of the race ahead of the Frenchman Nicolas Vinokourov and Pablo Carrascosa. Beneit, fourth, was the fastest in the sprint of eleven units among which also rode Alejandro Luna from Madrid.
After a climb to La Atalaya that became very hard, it was the first of two passes through the foothills of the Sierra de San Vicente, the great difficulty of this edition, where the race was broken. Juan Ayuso (Bathco) left with Nicolas Vinokourov (Monaco) and Pablo Carrascosa (Ciudad de Talavera). The three would quickly achieve more than a minute over twelve cyclists among which were Beneit and Luna.
Luna, still suffering from the injuries he sustained in his fall on the first day, was one of the protagonists of this final stage, trying to get involved in a breakaway before the start of the trio that would be able to leave. With almost two minutes of advantage, in the chasing group they worked to reduce to the maximum an advantage that finally oscillated around the minute.
