Outstanding performance by Nil Aguilera on the climbs of the Jura Massif: 15th on the final stage, 17th overall
Ain Bugey Valromey Tour 2022
Stage 5: Artemare – Plateau Hauteville (102,4 km)
Very tough last stage of the Ain Valromey Bugey Tour, the longest of this edition and marked by four climbs in the Jura Massif. And a remarkable performance by Nil Aguilera. The Catalan rider was at the forefront of the race at all times and finally finished fifteenth in the final section, 1’22” behind Alexy Faure-Prost who won alone.
From the start it was César Pérez from Murcia who sought to form part of the breakaway, getting involved in a movement that rode between the head of the race and the leader’s peloton in a race full of alternatives. Pérez and Álex García then supported Aguilera on the first climbs, who took a step forward on the last climb, where the race was finally blown apart.
Aguilera finished seventeenth in a general classification in which the German Emil Herzog won. “A race with a high level, my first UCI race outside Spain that has brought a lot of learning. Every day we have felt better and I have learned a lot. It’s time to keep working for the next goals of the season”, said the rider from Igualada.
