The story tells, but the Giro d’Italia has accustomed us to these things, to the beauty that surrounds the effort of the riders: the blue of the Adriatic Sea, the warmth of the people.
But history, above all, spoke of the EOLO KOMETA, which for the third time in its history began this wonderful journey colored pink. And we will not talk about results: it is not in time trials that our people will leave their mark, we know that. We will talk about this: about a beginning.
Starting tomorrow our boys will try to leave their mark, and leave it for real: throwing themselves on the attack, going on the run, protecting their captains, seeking a victory to change our history and their lives. Let’s enjoy it all.
Today’s time trial, in addition to having crowned Evenepoel, delivered the discrete performance of Mirco Maestri who finished in 23′ 07″ (best of the team, 53rd in the standings): “With coach Marangoni we thought of doing a time trial pushing a bit, with the goal of activating the legs after a few days of stop. Marangoni followed me on the car and guided me very well, and a good test came out: this means that the condition is good, so I am happy. Today’s time trial was not a goal, but the goal was to sprint with the right head. And this goal was achieved.”
Stefano Zanatta: “Today we did what was within our possibilities, without overdoing it but without losing too much time especially with Fortunato. We set a time trial with him keeping the watts he has right now knowing that the course would not favor him, the goal was to contain the delay under 3 minutes. Good Maestri and Albanese, a sign of good condition and an injection of confidence for the coming days: we wanted confirmation on the team’s form, and we got it. Starting tomorrow, our Giro d’Italia begins.”
