“On the last climb, we tucked Fernando in to minimise the time gap with the front riders for the next stages”
58º Giro Ciclístico della Valle d´Aosta
Stage 2: Saint-Christophe – Saint Christophe (124,5 km)
New leadership in the Valle d’Aosta. Frenchman Lenny Martinez (FDJ), who started the day in second place overall and moved to ride in an intermediate group, took the yellow jersey after a second stage in which his team-mate Lorenzo Germani won alone.
The climbs to Jeanceyaz and Grand Brissogne made the final part of the stage tougher, with many attacking moves again. Earlier, at the beginning of the second fraction, a breakaway of seven riders was formed, including Davide Piganzoli.
Fernando Tercero and David Domínguez were the first EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team riders at the finish, in a group that crossed the ascending finish line two minutes behind the winner, 50″ behind the new leader. Third loses a place in the overall, where he is now 17th, 2’35” behind Martínez.
David Domínguez: “Today we were with the front riders until the penultimate climb, where there were a lot of movements. We went calmly, supporting Fernando. In the last one we supported him to minimise the time gap with the frontrunners in view of the next stages and to catch some of the groups that formed after that climb”.
