Nil Aguilera, in a second peloton on a day where the breakaway triumphs and leaves out Alem Herráiz and Joan Cadena
Ain Bugey Valromey Tour 2022
Etapa 1: Culoz – Belley (104,3 km)
Frenchman Noa Isidore (AG2R U19) is the first leader of the Ain Bugey Valromey Tour after winning alone on Wednesday in a first stage in which the breakaway triumphed. Nil Aguilera, who arrived in a second group 4’13” behind the winner, is the best classified among the riders of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team in the general classification.
The passage by the punctuated hills ended up configuring the small group, nine cyclists, who ended up facing the last kilometres with a comfortable difference on a succession of groups in a very broken race. Many movements during the day, as usual in this race and in this category.
“It was very hot all day and we rode at full speed from start to finish. We lost an important rider like Alem and Joan ended up with knee problems. I got into a second group and I finished with a good feeling. It’s time to think about the next stage, which I’m sure will go better, with the maximum desire to give everything and to do our best”, said Aguilera.
The day did, however, bring two absentees for the blue team. Alem Herráiz, who was forced to withdraw, and Joan Cadena, who went out of control, will not start this Thursday. Especially hard is the loss of Cadena, the team’s fast man, after his solo efforts for more than 40 kilometres. Cadena hit his right knee hard on the handlebars, a painful blow that required the assistance of the race doctors.
