Nil Aguilera climbs up to third place in a general classification in which Antonio Morgado consolidates his position

Stage 2: Suances – Bostronizo (96 km)

In the final climb of Bostronizo, victory for Abel Rosado (Bathco) ahead of his teammate Estanislao Calabuig and the leader Antonio Morgado (Bairrada). Nil Aguilera, offensive in several moments of the climb, finished sixth in this second stage of the Cantabrian round, but the development of the race allowed him to climb two positions in a provisional general classification in which he is now third. A little further behind came César Pérez from Murcia, tenth in the stage and now also tenth overall.

The leader’s team controlled the course of the day at will. They protected Morgado with firmness and also unloaded responsibilities and left to do in some moments in which different offensives followed one after another. Pedro García or Lucas Guillermo were two of the riders of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team who were involved in accelerations and the day brought a fall for Joel Díaz in which the rider from Barcelona suffered injuries in knee, arm and right side.

Facing the final climb, with the race grouped, the riders directed by Guillermo Gutiérrez tried to impose a strong pace in the first stages of the climb. A very violent pace that did cause a large selection in the group, although the leader had no problem staying in the ever-shrinking pack, well escorted by his team-mates Gonzalo Tavares and Daniel Lima. All three, in fact, would finish in the top ten of the stage. The ten riders who moved within a margin of ten seconds.

From then on, a constant string of riders, either one by one or in small groups. Manuel Sanroma arrived at 2’06 (50th) and at 6’04”, a tremendous job for him, Pedro García and Lucas Guillermo (81st and 82nd, respectively) rode together. Weighed down by the fall, Joel Díaz arrived at 6’16”.

This Saturday the Vuelta al Besaya looks for the Pas valley in a stage that will face the Puerto de La Braguía midway through the stage, 8.2 kilometres at an average of over 5.7% and 10% gradients on this side of Selaya (perhaps it will be harder on Vega de Pas, the downhill side), and a finish line in the Cueva del Castillo de Puente Viesgo, an uphill finish of just under a kilometre and a half at an average, of course, of around 8%.
