“Matteo Moschetti’s jump is a success for everyone”

In just three months of existence, the Polartec-Kometa has managed to make one of its riders make the leap into the top professional cycling category. The Italian Matteo Moschetti, one of the new talents of the sprints, has secured a place in the Trek-Segafredo for the next two years after a brilliant start to the season in which the Milanese rider has achieved six partial successes to date. A real achievement, as unexpected as it is exciting, for the training that the Contador Foundation supervises. An achievement that reinforces its role.

“For a project like the completely new Polartec-Kometa, the fact of promoting a cyclist in just three months from the continental category to the World Tour is something that none of us could imagine and we are fully aware of its difficulty. Three months ago they told us and we wouldn’t have believed it”, says Fran Contador, the team’s manager. “It leaves the project in a very good place, we soon positioned ourselves in the category. All of us at Polartec-Kometa are very proud, starting with all of his teammates and all of the staff. It’s a success for everyone, because this is a team effort. This time it was Matteo, but the next one could be any of our riders”.

“We were born as a Trek-Segafredo development team during these two years and our goal is to keep our riders in the top category. Trek’s support is something that in the end has given us a lot of facilities. Having your support has been vital for us all to gain confidence in getting this project off the ground. That confidence has made Polartec-Kometa, in just three months, one of the benchmark teams in its class, an achievement that is very difficult. Our idea and our commitment is to continue learning and improving”, concludes Contador.
“This first part of the season has been great. Winning is never easy, but doing it in six races is a wonderful thing. I’m even happier to do it in a team as powerful as Polartec-Kometa, with such strong teammates and an incredible staff. The fact of running in Alberto Contador’s team is something incredible for me”, says Matteo Moschetti, who is very grateful.

The Lombard is the son of exciclists (his mother came to compete in one of the first editions of the Giro d’Italia for women) and he switched from football to cycling at the age of six, after attending a competition in which his cousin took part. Looking to the future, his dream is firm: “I dream of winning a race like Milan-Sanremo or a stage in a great lap, especially the Tour de France, but the main goal is to be a professional rider for many years, to have a long career”, he says.

For the moment, Matteo has a whole 2017 ahead of him to continue his sporting development: “We hope that he will continue to ride with us in the continental category and that he will continue to grow so that next year it will be much easier for him to adapt to the top category. We hope that Matteo will do well in the future. And above all, I’m lucky because it’s clear that it has a lot of quality”.
