Matteo Moschetti’s brilliant top-ten, best youngster in the first stage of Aragon

The Italian Matteo Moschetti signed a brilliant eighth position for Polartec-Kometa in the first stage of the reborn Vuelta a Aragón, which ended in the Alto de Castillo de Caspe after 180 kilometres.

Faithful to the forecast of a massive arrival, despite the effort of a four-rider escape that was hunted within the last ten kilometres, Moschetti was involved in the finish, where Jon Aberasturi from Vitoria won the race. His eighth place allowed him to climb the podium to be recognized as the best young man of the day.

“It was a very hard ending.  I am happy, because finishing in the top ten in a race as high as the Vuelta a Aragón is very positive. Now I have to think about Zaragoza, a sprint that I think I can do much better for my characteristics”, said the Spaniard after crossing the finish line.

“We managed to save the day without too many setbacks,” says Colombian Wilson Peña, who has his mind on Sunday’s finale in Cerler. In this sense, the worst unemployed was the Eritrean Awet Habtom, who suffered a double failure in the last few kilometres and was unable to reach the finish line with the main pack.

This Saturday, the Aragonese round will take place its second stage, 194 kilometres between Huesca and Zaragoza capital city where, beyond the forecast of a new massive arrival, the wind could come into action.
