Matteo Moschetti, wondrous in Hungary

Tour of Hungary
Stage 2: Velence-Székesfehérvár (190 km)

The Italian sprinter Matteo Moschetti won the sprint this Thursday in the second stage of the Tour of Hungary, a volata where his speedy pace allowed him to beat Attilio Viviani (Sangemini) and the leader Manuel Belletti (Androni) to achieve his ninth success of the year and the tenth victory of the season for Polartec-Kometa. Round numbers arriving at the sponsor’s home.

And a resounding triumph for the Milanese cyclist, with whom the entire formation had been involved in a permanent work at the head of the pack that cut down the different individual offensives that arrived within a final urban circuit where the group had to complete three laps. It was an ideal day for the sprint and you couldn’t miss the opportunity.

In those last fifteen kilometres, with two steps along the finish line, neither the Italian Michele Scartezzzini (Sangemini) nor the Hungarian János Pelikán (My Bike) managed to open substantial gaps against the work of a Polartec-Kometa that, within the last kilometre, Stefano Oldani’s great effort, managed to finish a demarcation of a CCC rider that ended up being the prelude to the sprint.

If in the first stage Moschetti ended up overtaken by Belletti, this time it happened in the opposite way, with the Lombard overtaking a leader who had launched the finish in first place. Belletti retains his lead in the overall standings in a Tour of Hungary where Moschetti is now second, six seconds behind yellow. The Polartec-Kometa quick man leads the way in the points standings, while team-mate Isaac Cantón remains involved in the battle for the mountain overall, where he occupies second place.

“The stage was very hard, the first part of the day was very, very fast. My team-mates’ work has been exceptional and thanks to them I have been able to face this arrival with guarantees. It’s a really important victory for my team, for our sponsor Kometa, for Giacomo Pedranzini…. It’s a victory for all of them,” said Moschetti.

“A great team effort, they were impressive. They are all very motivated and it is a pleasure to lead them, because they give their all with what we ask and they give everything on the bike. During these days we have tried to make them see in a constructive way that something like this was very important for them and for the team. And they have responded exceptionally well to the additional pressure we have put on them. Your delivery is maximum. Nothing more can be said about Matteo…. there is a reason why he is a runner who will be at the WorldTour next year”, says the director Jesús Hernández.

This Friday the Tour of Hungary offers a new opportunity for the fast men with a long stage of 206 kilometers between Cegléd and Hajdúszobosló.
