Marc Brustenga achieved in Asturias the last win of the Polartec Junior Team
Marc Brustenga, having achieved the victory in the second stage of the Vuelta a Asturias, was the last rider of the Polartec Junior to climb to the podium this season, waiting for the next important appointments, especially the ‘Tour des Portes du Pays d’Othe’, which the team will play next week in France.
“We start that day with the mentality of looking for victory in a more or less flat stage, in which I had a chance to win”, recalls Marc Brustenga. “We controlled the race from the beginning, we took the breakaway down, on the way I won an intermediate sprint that also gave me the victory in that classification and we reached the end with the peloton grouped. In the sprint I looked after myself. In the last kilometer there was a moment of doubt after the jump of a rider and I did not think twice. We entered the last straight line, which was quite long, and I launched the sprint, with everyone to my wheel, but nobody could pass me. I don’t know how far I launched the sprint, but I don’t remember to have made another sprint so long”, concludes the sprinter of the Polartec.
It is the second victory of Marc Brustenga this season, after that achieved in a race of the Catalan Cup, but what matters him most is the moment of form in which he is. “On my terrain, on the flat and in the sprints, I think I’m better than ever. Now what I’m trying to do is improve on the climbs and passing the mountain”, he explains.
He will have a good chance to prove his good moment next week, when the team plans to return to the Tour des Portes du Pays d’Othe. For him it will be his first time in this French race, but he already has experience abroad. “As a cadet I’ve been to Holland and France many times and I really like that cycling, different from here”. Last year, in addition, had the opportunity to run the Paris-Roubaix with the Spanish Team and he did a good race. “I lacked experience, but still I could finish quite well, only 30 seconds from the winner”. In the Pays d’Othe he will have a new opportunity to demonstrate his qualities in a terrain that adapts very much to his possibilities.
