Maestri flies in the time trial: podium is just a step away
EOLO KOMETA’s beautiful day. Theater: the Tour Poitou-Charentes, which today experienced two moments with the morning stage won by our Samuele Rivi and the 22-kilometer time trial held in the afternoon. And that reserved us another wonderful satisfaction with the splendid proof of Mirco Maestri able to fly up to 6th place at 50″ from the winner Armirail but only 3″ from the third step of the podium. A result that allows Mirco to make a big jump in the overall standings: he is now in 4th place, 2″ from the third place finisher. Tomorrow’s stage will decide everything, and there is a great desire to close a Tour Poitou-Charentes that is already beautiful.
Mirco Maestri: “I came here with the goal of doing a good time trial, with Stefano Zanatta I compared myself on several occasions and we both thought that I had every chance to play it. The condition is very good, the last races went well, and also today the legs were turning very well and I am really happy: of my result but also of the great day of the team with Samuele’s victory this morning. Now in the overall standings I am fourth and the podium is just a step away, although it has to be said that those behind me are very close: we play for everything tomorrow. Lonardi and I will try to stay out of trouble and get to the front at the end, him to win the stage and me to try to get on the podium.”
Stefano Zanatta: “It was a very fast time trial, with few corners, for passers-by. Mirco was convinced to do well in it after his results in Belgium and he tackled it in the best possible way: he interpreted it very well and went strong, coming close to the podium. Bevilacqua and Pietrobon also did well, tomorrow we will try to look at the overall standings with Maestri and the stage win with Lonardi who is doing very well.”
