Lucas Guillermo takes part in the last round of the Euskal Herria Trophy: “Satisfied, but not happy”
XLIX Circuito Villatuerta / Torneo Euskal Herria
Villatuerta – Villatuerta (90 km)
Lucas Guillermo finished eleventh this Saturday afternoon in a new edition of the Villatuerta Circuit in Navarre, a race that closed the 2022 edition of the Euskal Herria Trophy promoted by the Basque Federation and the Navarre Cycling Federation and in which Mikel Uncilla (Sakana), the final winner of the tournament, won.
A peloton of 120 riders took part in the race organised by the Club Ciclista Ondalan, the eighth and final round of the competition. A breakaway of four riders was formed in the middle of the race, a movement in which Uncilla rode and then went on the attack to win alone.
“At the start I was very strong and I was able to infiltrate the first breakaway of the day. We didn’t manage to make much of a difference, no more than a minute’s margin. The good sensations I had been having until then started to get a bit confused, I had a moment of crisis and, added to the unbearable heat – I don’t cope well with the heat – I ended up dropping out of the leading group”, explains Guillermo.
“But we are fighters, we never give up, that’s something I always repeat in my mind. It doesn’t matter what the situation is. I was able to turn the situation around. And although the race was already decided, in the end I was able to finish in eleventh position, which leaves me satisfied, although not happy”.
