The Spanish tour of the Kometa Cycling Team faces its last race with the participation in the Vuelta Ciclista a Aragón from this Friday until next Sunday. The Aragonese round, in which the continental team was already present last year, will mean the return to competition of the Sevillian Juan Pedro López. The Andalusian could not attend the Vuelta a Asturias, a race that was initially in his calendar, as a result of a small tendinitis in his left leg that was detected last April 23.
“I have already finished with the recovery sessions, I have been strengthening. When I pressed with the bike I didn’t feel bad at all, better than I expected, and now with the Vuelta a Aragón and others I hope to catch the competition rhythm very fast. I’m really looking forward to it”, explains López about his discomfort in the tendon of the fascia lata. “It was something that I felt from the hip to a little below the knee and the truth is that I pulled a lot”.
López will be accompanied on the Aragonese roads by Juan Camacho, Isaac Cantón, Diego Pablo Sevilla, Stefano Oldani, Antonio Puppio and Michele Gazzoli. The Manchegos Camacho and Cantón return to a race in which they already took part in 2018, a year in which Michel Ries was the best classified rider in the final overall and Matteo Moschetti finished eighth in a first stage that ended in the town of Caspe. Achieving a presence in the race with maximum ambition is once again the team’s objective in the context of a participation where they will face WorldTour formations and professional continental squads from Spanish, France, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Belgium or Colombia.
It will be the stage of Saturday, with end in Canfranc, the most complex orographically. Four scoring climbs mark out a very broken course that will have in the ascent to San Juan de la Peña (1.235 m; 12 km at 5%) its greatest difficulty. A stage of medium mountain whose end will be located after ten kilometers of soft ascent, very stretched, by a road that goes up the valley up to the Somport.
Before, on Friday, the design of the stage proposes some very broken areas, with the passage through the Alto de Paniza as the zenith, but the last thirty kilometres are essentially favourable. The dynamics will be repeated in the third and last stage, with a first third more complex where it will circulate next to Loarre and a final part totally favorable to the regional capital.
