Juan Camacho and Juanpe López, the best times of the Kometa Cycling Team in the Orihuela Seminar

70th Vuelta a la Comunitat Valenciana
Stage 1: Orihuela-Orihuela (10.2 km ITT)

The second journey of the Kometa Cycling Team in the professional peloton officially started on Wednesday with the first stage of the Vuelta Ciclista a la Comunitat Valenciana, a 10.2 km time trial with start and finish in Orihuela whose goal was placed next to the Diocesan Seminary of San Miguel after a sinuous final steep slope that delighted the fans and demanded all the participants.

An even more special time trial for the Madrid formation due to the fact that a rider from the Kometa Cycling Team was in charge of opening the race. The Italian Stefano Oldani was the first cyclist of the whole enter list to start his participation in the 70th edition of the Valencian race.

“It was very hard, really. If you inspected the course before, it might seem that it wasn’t that hard, but in competition, giving it everything, and with the pain in the legs, if it became hard. The sensations have been good. Today was a bit of a day to ‘break’ the legs, to warm up and I think that this Thursday the sensations will be better,” said the Italian.

The Spaniard Juan Camacho, 64th with 13:48, recorded the best time of the seven riders of the Kometa Cycling Team. Two more seconds, 13:50, signed Juan Pedro López, 69th. “It has been a very hard time, but I’m very happy with how we did it”, he said when crossing the finish line. “The finish was very explosive”, said Luxembourg’s Michel Ries, who finished with 14:09.

This first stage was very special for José Antonio García. The Spaniard, 139th in his first race, debuted as a professional runner in a time trial in which he clocked 14:35. “I’m happy, it went very well. I was a bit afraid of the steep slope, but I didn’t want to squeeze everything so as not to burst on the way up. In the end, very happy. And I’m looking forward to tomorrow”, said Joselillo.

In the time trial, with a stratospheric record of 12:55, and conquering the first yellow jersey leader, won the Norwegian Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data). The Nordic cyclist reduced by ten seconds the time that many minutes before had established the Dutch Jos van Endem (Jumbo-Visma).

This Thursday is disputed the second stage of the Levantine round, a second stage with departure and arrival in Alicante that will be disputed on 170 kilometers and presents an intermediate route quite broken in which three high points stand out for the great prize of the mountain: Maigmó, Canalí and La Carrasqueta.
