Javi Serrano, the best U23 at the María Isabel Clavero Memorial
XXX Memorial María Isabel Clavero
Las Rozas – Las Rozas (street circuit)
The Madrid town of Las Rozas was once again in the cycling spotlight this autumn thanks to a new edition of the Memorial María Isabel Clavero. The event, which returned after the forced break in 2020, is a real cycling festival. A day among friends, a meeting between different eras, a confluence between present, past and future cycling.
A one-kilometre urban circuit hosted all the races, with different distances for the three heats scheduled for the different categories. The professional cyclists were the last to compete, at 15.00 hours, and had to complete twenty laps of the track.
Our Madrid rider Diego Pablo Sevilla finished third on the podium, behind the Spanish champion Omar Fraile from Bizkaia and Raúl García Pierna, also from Madrid and with a background in the junior team of the Contador Foundation, Raúl García Pierna. It is Fraile’s second victory in the Memorial after 2018.
Also competing in Las Rozas was Javi Serrano from Madrid’s U23 team, who finished first in his category, ahead of Javier Ibáñez (Lizarte) and Ángel Casillas (Team Extremadura).
The María Isabel Clavero Memorial was born as a posthumous tribute by Dani Clavero, cyclist and organiser of the event, to his sister, who died in a traffic accident. This remembrance through sport, year after year, and with a move from the Madrid neighbourhood of Aluche to the town of Las Rozas, has been consolidated as one of the classic off-season events.
