Javi Serrano, after Paris-Roubaix junior: “I enjoyed it like a child”
Javi Serrano was the only one of the three riders of the Kometa Cycling Team junior who managed to finish the challenge of the Paris-Roubaix category. The Spaniard finished in 42nd position, four minutes away from a race in which the Dutchman Hidde Van Veenendaal won.
“It was a very good experience, I learned a lot. People are going very fast in this race, but I think they have done well. With twenty kilometres to go there were only 25 riders left in the head and I was there. But twelve kilometres from the finish line, at the Carrefour of l´Abre I stayed. But at the same time I was enjoying myself as a child”, he says.
This call for Serrano was his first experience on this type of surface, beyond some occasional passage through urban centers of towns. “No, I had never ridden on cobblestones, but I knew it was going to be a discipline that I would love very much.
Carlos Rodríguez, who had a great performance in the 2018 edition, and Juan José Rosal, who was making his debut, could not finish the race. In Rodriguez’s case, the Andalusian was involved in a fall that definitely took him off the main group.
