Iván Loaisa wins in Benagéber
Iván Loaisa managed to bring his breakaway to a successful conclusion after showing a great offensive attitude giving continuity to the team’s attacks. The Andalusian was close to victory in Peñafiel and in Benagéber he managed to make up for it. Óscar Orts secured his top 5 in the overall classification of the Copa de España in his first year in the category.
The race started very controlled by the leader’s team. After the first two climbs of the day Eleazar Jiménez managed to get into a breakaway with another rider. The bunch gave chase, but soon after it was Iván Loaisa who attacked and managed to open a gap. After the third climb and before facing the two final ones, the Andalusian rider rode with another rider with an advantage of 50″ over the pursuers.
Already on the ramps of the last climb before the finish line despite a new attack, Loaisa was neutralized by two other riders who bridged from the main group. The three of them reached the sprint and Ivan was able to win with authority and score a prestigious victory in his palmares. Eleazar Jiménez was 8th and Óscar Orts was 15th, showing great consistency.
“The team has run 10/10. We have been on the attack all the race. It was a very tough race and Iván Loaisa has shown he is in good shape and is having a great end of the season, as well as Eleazar and Óscar. We are happy, despite the news we received the other day, we have given our all. It is a privilege to be able to train cyclists of this type,” explained Isaac Cantón, very satisfied.
“It was a race in which we started behind the leader’s team. After the first few climbs Eleazar was ahead and behind Iker and I took advantage of a cut to escape and we got to the front. On the descent of the third climb we broke away another rider and I. On the last climb he didn’t give me any help so I pushed and let him behind. Cubillas caught me two kilometers from the finish line, but in the sprint I took my chances, I entered first in the turn and managed to win”, analyzed Iván Loaisa his race.
