Haimar Etxeberria makes his debut with EOLO-KOMETA with a third place in Alarcos
The basque rider Haimar Etxeberria made his debut in competition with the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team U23 this Saturday with a third place in the steep arrival to the Archaeological Park of Alarcos, finish of the first stage of the Memorial Manuel Sanroma 2023. The fastest rider was Fran Rus (Cortizo), with Sergi Darder (High Level – Gsport) in second place.
Etxeberria was the trump card of Rafa Díaz Justo for a day of predictable development and permanent concentration with the threat of the appearance of the wind: that of a long breakaway (in this case solo, the Irishman of Cortizo Aaron Wade) that would amass rents close to six minutes before the main teams were boldly involved in the work of neutralization.
The EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team, among other teams, was involved in this work, and from these efforts came the hunt for Wade, in the last 25 kilometres. From there, many ‘sticks’, very lively pace and a lot of attention from the riders of the Foundation structure with a view to the final climb, in whose start Andrea Montoli would move looking for the surprise and where finally Etxeberria would sign the third place. Identical position for the Basque rider in the general standings ahead of Sunday’s stage, the long journey starting and finishing in Almagro that faces the foothills of Sierra Morena through the Alto de Huertezuelas.
Haimar Etxeberria: “I’m very happy for this debut, it’s a dream debut. I was very excited about the change of team and in the end we were able to make our debut with this third place. The team has been very good throughout the day, we have worked very well together. In the second stage we are going to give everything to try to move up some places in the final general classification”.
