The dominance of the Portuguese Bairrada extended during an intense day with a double sector that had a sweet start for the interests of the junior team of the Contador Foundation and ended with a bitter sensation due to crashes.
In the morning time trial, eleven kilometres in Cogeces del Monte of individual fight against the clock, the Portuguese Antonio Morgado reinforced his leadership with a time of 14’00”, almost half a minute better than his teammate Gonzalo Tavares.
The Hungarian Balazs Pollner, recent champion of his country, had a great time trial and managed to finish with the fourth best time of the day, 45″ behind Morgado. Joel Díaz also had a very good performance, tenth place, 1’10” behind the winner.
In the second sector, not too long and disputed under intense heat, crashes were the main protagonists of some sets. Joan Cadena and Joel Díaz were involved in a fall, as was Alem Herráiz, and neither of the first two were able to start the following day due to injuries. Cadena ended up with his right arm in a sling and Díaz with a heavy blow to one of his knees.
A second sector in which around twenty riders reached the last straight, with the final victory going to Portugal’s Daniel Lima.
