Great breakaway for Mattia Bais in Giro dell’Emilia

In the big races of the season, in the races with the most history, that’s where the riders show their true level. Mattia Bais today was part of a great breakaway in the Giro dell’Emilia, in front of the bunch for more than 160 kilometres and riding the last 30 kilometres alone in the company of Scaroni (Astana).

The presence he gave to EOLO KOMETA was undoubtedly the best hallmark of the team’s participation in a race of enormous prestige. The victory went to Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma). But the applause for many hours from the fans went for Mattia Bais who was first part of a group of 8, selected in the first climb to 6 riders and in the second climb reduced to a duo after the attack of Scaroni (Astana).

Great sensations for Mattia Bais, but small the gap that left him a group of favourites trying to dispute the final circuit in Bologna and with the climbs to San Luca with the race already controlled. It was with 40 kilometres to go that Mattia’s adventure came to an end. We will surely see him try again in the next races.

EOLO KOMETA could not fight for the top places in the race, although Lorenzo Fortunato, Davide Piganzoli and Diego Sevilla held in the bunch in the final part. At the finish line in San Luca, Fortu was 15th and Piga 16th, a meritorious position, with his mind set on the rest of the races and the Giro di Lombardia.

Mattia Bais: “Today the idea was to be in the breakaway, to anticipate and be ahead for the final part. The group didn’t leave us much margin, but from the breakaway group when I saw that the peloton was coming towards us, I started with Scaroni trying to keep our chances at least for a few more kilometres”.

Stefano Zanatta, sport director of EOLO KOMETA: “The team did a great race, with the presence of Mattia Bais in the breakaway and being able to reach the final circuit in Bologna, 40 kilometres from the finish line. An outstanding presence, which then had continuity with Fortu, Piga and Sevilla in the final part. Both Fortu and Piga remained in the select group of favourites until practically the last lap. We have to mention also De Cassan, who showed great level and qualities in a complicated race”.
