Gavazzi, the best EOLO Kometa in an eventful Tour of Turkey
Presidential Tour of Turkey (2.PRO)
Stage 8: Cancelled
Francesco Gavazzi confirmed his 12th place overall in the Presidential Tour of Turkey with an eighth stage that did not take place due to weather conditions. The rain made it impossible to ride safely on the roads and a big crash after only 25 kilometres was the decisive factor in the cyclists’ decision to end the competition. Fancellu, Sevilla and Rivi fell, although they did not suffer any major damage.
An anecdote that fits in a week full of crashes and incidents, but also of great performances by the sprinter Giovanni Lonardi, very active in the mass finishes and who has achieved two top-10, and a stratospheric Gavazzi who made good his role in the queen stage and in the most demanding days to be at the gates of the top ten of the general classification.
Jesús Hernández: “The assessment is very positive, four top-10 finishes in seven days… And apart from that, we also had a very good image of the team. We have worked very seriously, we have always been seen in front. No matter the situation of the race, if there were echelons, in the feed zone… we have always had our leader Gavazzi well positioned and protected and I think it is a very nice and very positive detail facing the Giro d’Italia. We leave with a very good feeling, with a very good job done in sporting terms and also in terms of harmony and group work, which I think is a good base for the Giro”.
